The VIMFF Best of the Fest: Haida Gwaii Film & Mentorship Initiative is coming to Haida Gwaii this September with free community screenings, Indigenous-led storytelling, and locally curated films. More than a film tour, this initiative supports mentorship, celebrates culture and adventure, and builds lasting connections through land and story.

The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival was born from a love of adventure and storytelling. Inspired by a small film festival in Communist Czechoslovakia, founder Alan Formanek brought his passion for mountain culture to Vancouver.

The VIMFF 2025 begins on February 21, where we will be screening a lineup of adventure-inspiring, thought-provoking films. Watch stories of identities being carved out on the slopes, breathtaking mountain-sport achievements, and learn more about the wild spaces we’re so lucky to live and work within.

The 28th annual Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival is back with an exhilarating lineup of never-before-seen adventure films! Running in-person from February 21 – March 4 and online until March 23, this year’s selection features inspiring stories of resilience, outdoor exploration, and environmental conservation.

In the summer of 2023, four climbing friends set out to complete a human-powered expedition to a seldom visited corner of the Canadian Arctic. Going off little more than satellite imagery, establishing new routes in Coronation Fjord was an objective fraught with unknowns.

“Make it as long as it needs to be good.” The wise words of Ivan Hughes, who frequently offers this simple guidance to folks submitting their work for our festivals. As the Program Director, he selects all the films for the VIMFF, curating each show into a careful and impactful festival collection.
